Monolithic Additive Manufacturing of a Dual-Mode Cavity Filter Based on Ellipsoidal Resonators
Résumé
A 4 th order ellipsoidal cavity filter in the K-band, designed for a metal additive manufacturing called Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is presented. Two filter designs with a folded coupling topology are proposed. The first filter based on cylindrical cavities serves as a reference filter. The use of ellipsoidal cavities for the 2 nd filter makes it possible to significantly reduce the occupied volume with very little impact on the quality factor of the resonant cavities. The ellipsoidal shape coupling iris makes it possible to obtain a filter with a quality factor equivalent to the one of the simulated cylindrical cavity filter with a return loss set to 22 dB and a relative bandwidth of 1%. Measured results give a return loss higher than 25 dB and an insertion loss of 0,57 dB confirming the applicability of SLM in the K-band.
